Child Vampire Jared Jared's safe spot was an abandoned house in an rough neighborhood When Jared was 11 or 12 he ran away from foster care and went to look for his uncle. He didn't find him but his search took him to a rough part of the city. He had been in this sort of environment when he was very young and he stayed knowing that the people there probably wouldn't talk if the police came looking for him.  As it turned out they never did. That part of the city was left to take care of itself. It was a lawless zone. Jared met up with some older teens who had an abandoned house they were staying in and he got into their routine. They would sleep in the day and go out in the evening. They taught him how to survive and he was good at it. He had to do all kinds of things, stealing, begging, running various scams and more but liked it better than being in foster care. He was good at it.     One night he was hanging out in front of 7-11 when he saw a new kid talking to an older man. He didn't know Alan yet then and he was surprised to see a kid so young on his own. Jared watched as the man talking to Alan and then he used a trick he'd been taught by his friends. "William! What are you doing? Dad is looking for you! He's right around the corner!" The man had money in his hand and Jared grabbed it away from him. He and Alan ran off into the darkness and waited for the man to leave. When he did they went into 7-11 and bought donuts and candy.     They were being watched. There was an ancient vampire who also stayed in this area in an empty building and he had mesmerized Jared some time before. He hadn't made him a vampire but he had started the process. Jared sometimes found himself waking from what he thought were strange dreams. There was a man in these dreams who would communicate without words. He told Jared of strange faraway places and then he would give Jared a hug before leaving.  This was what the vampire made him see but in fact he was taking just a bit of Jared's blood each time. Not enough to really harm him but enough to get some of his energy. The vampire liked Jared's energy and it gave him strength to taste his blood. He sometimes gave Jared some of his own blood but he hadn't given enough for Jared to be made yet. He did it when Jared seemed hungry or sick. His powerful vampire blood could cure all mortal ills and even though he was an ancient bloodsucking creature there was something about Jared that he liked. When Jared met Alan he told him about the dreams and Alan began to have them, too. This vampire would visit the run down abandoned house they slept in and, in the ancient tradition, after receiving an invitation, he would enter and take the boys to other realms. They began to understand these were more than just dreams and there was some fear, but the things he would show them were impossible to resist.  They became very close and watched out for each other. There is a house they may show you where they stay in spirit. It's in a neighborhood full of abandoned buildings where hardly anyone gets off the subway.
